EMMELO Annual Meeting in Bordeaux

On 10–11 September 2026, partners of the Horizon Europe EMMELO project met at the University of Bordeaux for the project’s first Annual Meeting.

Bringing together perspectives from France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Slovakia and Sweden, the two-day meeting was an excellent opportunity to reflect on the progress made during the first year, exchange experiences across countries and disciplines, and jointly shape the next phase of the project.

Discussions focused on ongoing interviews and emerging country findings, survey development, data scraping and cross-country analysis, as well as research ethics and key concepts including extremism, radicalisation and masculinities. The consortium also discussed priorities for the upcoming months, including further empirical research, comparative analysis, dissemination and policy engagement.

A particularly inspiring part of the meeting was the exchange with civil society actors in France working to counter extremism, whose practical perspectives provided valuable feedback and new ideas for the project’s future work.

The meeting created strong momentum for the next stage of EMMELO and reinforced the value of international and interdisciplinary cooperation in addressing complex societal challenges.
